About the scheme
Energy and Utility Skills National Water Hygiene (‘Blue Card’) scheme plays a vital part in ensuring the protection of public health and promoting good water hygiene practices. The scheme has been developed in collaboration with all UK water companies.
This ½ day course is designed for all persons who work upstream and downstream on clean water networks and can be delivered either face to face or remotely.

The National Water Hygiene scheme is recognised by the UK water industry as a vital part in ensuring the protection of public health and promoting safe drinking water practices. It is a criminal offence to supply water unfit for human consumption.
Any person working on a Restricted Operations area at sites such as service reservoirs, water pumping stations, water treatment works, wells, springs, and boreholes or working on the network of water mains and service pipes must be in possession of a National Water Hygiene card.
Modules
The scheme consists of 4 modules covering awareness of safe water hygiene practices:
Module 1: The importance of water
Module 2: Water as a carrier of disease
Module 3: Potential contamination and its consequences
Module 4: Preventing contamination
Delivery
Delivery can be face to face or via remote delivery. Delivery time is 3 hours
Registration
National Water Hygiene card is valid for 3 years
Renewal
Renewal is via re-attendance of the entire course
